A suction cup dildo is a dildo you stop holding. You press the base onto something flat and smooth, it stays where you put it, and from then on your hips do the work instead of your wrist. Fifteen of our pieces have a cup under them. A few others have a flared base with nothing to stick down.
This page is about riding one. Which surfaces hold a cup and how to keep the seal clean already have their own page, our self suck dildo guide, so that part stays short here. What gets more room is the moment a piece gets heavy enough that the wall stops being a good idea.
A suction cup holds it down; a flared base stops it going in
These are two different jobs, and they get blurred together in shop listings. A flared base is wider than anything above it, so the toy stops at the opening. A suction cup is there to fix the toy to a surface. Some cups are wide enough to do both. Some are not.
Our product pages say which is which. On Stardust Shuttle the cup is wider than anything above it, so it also does the job of a flared base. Vargrahl's page says the same about its cup and the knot above it, on every size. The Bloom-Parasite sits on a flat disc wider than its biggest swell, and Nagaros has a base that is wider than the widest swell above it on each size.
Then there are pieces with no cup at all. Thick Conqueror ends in a flared disc. Winding ends in a wide anchor whose whole purpose is to stop the shaft going in past the last section. You hold these.
If a page does not say its cup is wider than the widest point, don't treat the cup as a stopper.

How to ride a suction cup dildo on the floor
Start low. A smooth floor or a chair seat is where Nexus Node's page tells you to put it: stick it down, lower yourself onto it, and your weight does the work. The deeper you sit, the more you fill. Koopa's cup is described the same way, holding on tile or a smooth chair seat.
The order that works for most people goes like this. Press the cup onto a dry spot and give the shaft a tug before any weight goes on it. Lube the shaft and yourself, and keep it off the cup; our lube guide covers which kinds suit silicone. Kneel or squat over it with a hand on the floor or the seat edge, take the head, come back up, take a little more. Depth is how far you sit. You set it, the toy doesn't.
Kneeling beats squatting for the first few rides. Honestly, your thighs quit long before anything else does.
On the long pieces you can also run out of room before you run out of toy. The Bloom-Parasite's page puts it plainly for the L and XL: you bottom out well before the base, so pick by how deep you want to go, not by how much you can take. Where the stopping points are, and what they feel like, is in our depth guide.
A small aside. The riding post with the most upvotes in the r/dildo threads we read, 12,258 of them, carries the title "Careful when riding in the shower, it's slippery." It isn't about the cup. It is about feet. The glazed tile a cup likes is the same tile you are kneeling on with lube on both hands, and nobody ever slipped off a bath mat. Put one down. A towel folded twice works too.
Wall-mounted dildos: keep the heavy sizes on the floor
A mounted dildo on a shower wall looks easy in photos, and the first question under one of those posts is always some version of "What are you using to prop it on the wall like that?" On a floor, gravity presses the cup down. On a wall, the whole weight of the piece hangs off the edge of the seal, and then you lean on it.
That is why several of our pages back away from the wall as the sizes go up. Sword Demon's L is 1289 g (2.8 lb), and the page says we would put it on the floor and leave the wall alone. Vargrahl's XL is 1593 g (3.5 lb), and its page says it belongs in a hand rather than on a wall. Vivid's L is 1348 g (3.0 lb) and its XXL 3513 g (7.7 lb); Skyline Challenger's XL is 1434 g (3.2 lb), with the note to pick a surface you trust.
Hot Surge is the clearest case. The base is a sculpted hand closed around the root, with a separate cup under the hand. The M is 1257 g (2.8 lb) and the L is 2058 g (4.5 lb), so you get two ways to use it: press it down and ride it, or hook your fingers into the hand and drive it yourself.
We would rather you lost the photo than lost the seal halfway down.
Mounted on a strap-on, or held in a hand
Two of our pages say the base also fits a strap-on. Centaur has two balls side by side on a round cup, and the whole base fits a strap-on if you would rather not ride it. Horse Spirit's four-lobe cup grips tile and fits one as well. The other pages don't mention strap-on use, so we won't say it for them either.
Then the hand. Vargrahl's balls are the grip when it is hand-held. Nagaros's base doubles as the handle, and the S at 317 g sits in one hand. Nexus Node is held by the base from the M up. Twin Fantasy's base is its handle too; how that works on a two-armed piece is in our double ended dildo guide.
Questions we get
Does the suction cup stop it going in too far?
Only where the cup is wider than everything above it. Stardust Shuttle, Vargrahl, The Bloom-Parasite and Nagaros say so on their pages. Where a page doesn't say it, treat the cup as a mount and nothing more.
How do I get it off the floor afterwards?
Lift an edge of the cup. Koopa's page says it lets go with a fingernail under the edge. Pulling on the shaft just fights the seal.
Which size should I ride first?
One size down from the one you'd hold, because sitting puts more of your weight behind it than your hand would. Koopa's page says to start at the S if it is your first fantasy toy. Every length and width is on our size guide.
Can I ride one in the shower?
Several of our pages name tile as a surface the cup holds on. The cup is rarely what goes wrong in there. Put something under your knees.
